We hold, back, and advise businesses built to endure.
Ivythorn is a UK-based private holdings and advisory group. We deploy patient capital, take disciplined stakes in established companies, and counsel the founders, families, and boards who run them — over decades, not quarters.
A private holdings company — and the counsel that goes with it.
Ivythorn is a UK-based private holdings and advisory group. As a holding company we acquire and own significant stakes in established, well-run businesses and hold them for the long term. As advisors we help founders, families, and boards raise capital, buy, sell, and plan for succession on their own terms.
We are not a fund with a clock. We invest our own balance sheet, we move at the pace the business needs, and we stay for the compounding — which is why so much of our work begins with a conversation rather than a process.
“The best businesses aren’t built in quarters. They’re built in decades — by people who never had to sell before they were ready.”
Four ways we put capital and counsel to work.
Ivythorn operates as a private holdings company, a source of growth capital, an advisory partner, and a steward of the group’s portfolio — often for the same client over many years.
Private Holdings
We acquire and hold significant stakes in established businesses, becoming a patient, permanent-feeling owner rather than a short-term financial tourist.
Growth & Venture Capital
Patient equity for companies that have found their footing and are ready to scale — without the pressure of a fixed fund life or an exit deadline.
Strategic Advisory
Discreet counsel for founders, families, and boards on capital structure, acquisitions, divestments, and succession — independent of any transaction fee.
Portfolio Stewardship
Active governance and hands-on support across the group of companies — strengthening boards, leadership, and operations so each business compounds.
Capital that climbs, counsel that guards.
The name carries our discipline. Ivy grows patiently and compounds over time; the thorn protects what matters. We bring both to every relationship.
Patient, permanent capital
We invest our own balance sheet with no fixed fund life and no obligation to sell. That means we can hold through cycles and back long horizons.
Aligned, not adversarial
We structure terms that keep founders in control of what they built. Our returns come from growth, not from leverage or fees stacked against the business.
Operators as well as investors
We bring hands-on governance, not just capital. Through our group of companies we’ve run real businesses — including technical and property services.
Discretion by default
Many of our best introductions arrive quietly. We keep counsel confidential, terms private, and announcements to a minimum.
Cross-border reach
Headquartered in the United Kingdom with an operating presence in the UAE through European Technical, we work comfortably across Europe and the Middle East.
One relationship, many roles
Today’s advisor is often tomorrow’s investor or shareholder. We’d rather know your business for a decade than transact with you once.
From first conversation to long stewardship.
There is no formal auction and no rigid timetable. These four steps describe how a typical Ivythorn relationship actually unfolds.
Introduction
A private conversation — often by referral — about the business, the people, and what they want the next decade to look like.
Diligence
We get to know the company on its own terms: the numbers, yes, but also the culture, customers, and the founder’s honest intentions.
Partnership
Where it fits, we agree terms — an investment, an acquisition, or an advisory mandate — designed to keep control with the people who built the business.
Stewardship
We stay. Through governance, capital, and counsel we help the business compound, long after the paperwork is signed.
We invest where we can add something beyond money.
Ivythorn concentrates on established, profitable businesses with clear moats and the people in place to grow them. We’re industry-agnostic in principle, but we gravitate toward a handful of sectors where our operational experience is genuinely useful — and we won’t pretend otherwise.
Within the group, our portfolio spans operational services, property and real assets, and growth-stage companies. Across all of it, the discipline is the same: understand the business deeply, structure the relationship fairly, and stay longer than the market expects.
Sectors we know well
Before we invest, we ask five things.
- A real, defensible position in its market — a moat, not just momentum.
- A leadership team and culture worth backing for the long run.
- Clean finances and a business that earns, not just one that grows.
- Founders who want a partner, not an exit deadline.
- A way for us to contribute something real — governance, capital, or know-how.
What people usually want to know first.
Both. Ivythorn is a UK-based private holdings and advisory group. We own stakes in businesses through our holding company activity, and separately we advise founders, families, and boards on capital, acquisitions, and succession. The two sides often serve the same client over time.
Indefinitely, in principle. Because we invest our own balance sheet rather than a fund with a fixed life, there is no obligation to exit on a timetable. We hold for as long as the business is compounding and the partnership is working — measured in decades, not quarters.
Private equity typically raises funds with fixed lifecycles, uses significant leverage, and works toward a defined exit. Ivythorn uses permanent capital, lighter structures, and no exit deadline — and we act as operators through our group of companies, not only as financial owners.
Both, depending on what the business needs and the founder wants. We’re equally comfortable as a significant minority partner or as the majority owner, and we design terms that keep the people who built the company aligned and in control of what matters to them.
If you’re building something meant to last, let’s talk.
Whether you’re raising capital, considering a sale or acquisition, planning succession, or simply want a discreet, long-horizon partner — we’d welcome a private conversation.
